Reduce, Reuse…RESTOQ?
Amazon Destroys Millions Of Products Each Year
Every year Amazon destroys millions of unsold items in their UK warehouse. Products are being sent to the destruction zone even though it is often unused and new. The majority of the products have not been opened and are still in their original packaging.
Most of these products could be redistributed to charities for those who are in need. However, they are being dumped at recycling centers and landfill sites that are causing harm to our environment. A former Amazon employee has revealed that Amazon destroys approximately 130,000 items a week.
Why Items Are Being Thrown Away
Amazon offers cheap inventory storage to businesses for 90 days and once the 90 days is up the business chooses whether to pay increased storage fees or to dispose of it. Storage fees will continuously get more expensive the longer businesses decide to keep the product there. Eventually, businesses decide to dispose of the goods because it is cheaper.
Businesses also have the option to return the items which is the same cost as disposing it. However, the reason why they don’t choose to return the products is because they often have no warehouse location to ship it to.
Amazon is unable to donate items due to liability concerns and must destroy inventory that the merchants choose not to take back.
RESTOQ’s Purpose
Our mission is to take these products and put them back into the hands of consumers while reducing unnecessary waste in our landfills. You can find thousands of items listed on our public marketplace here. We have a network of sellers at flea markets and swap meets across the nation who can find a second home for these products. We want to encourage FBA sellers to have their products put in the hands of consumers in need rather than destroying them.
Come Join Us In Becoming More Environmentally Friendly Today!
We will be reaching out to Amazon to list their products with us. If you see a sticker with the RESTOQ logo, then you know this business is reducing their carbon footprint with us.
